Midcourse Space Experiment (MSX)

Aspacecraft launched in April 1996 by the US Ballistic Missile Defense Organization, with an expected working lifetime of 4 years. It carried instruments which were used for a wide range of astronomical observations as well as for military purposes. They included a sensitive infrared telescope and instruments capable of imaging and spectroscopy in the ultraviolet and visible parts of the spectrum.
